Jack Raymond Phippen, 86, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on March 30, 2026, at Willow Hospice on the Boise VA campus.
Jack was born in Hailey, Idaho, and grew up in Carey with his parents, Lois and Monroe Phippen, and his sisters, Linda (Zornik) and Cheryl Phippen. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for ten years, stationed in various locations across the United States as well as in Germany and Korea.
While serving in Germany, Jack met and married the love of his life, Hannelore Heiser. The two shared a beautiful 60 years of marriage before Hannelore passed away just seven short months ago.
Jack remained in government service throughout his entire career, transitioning from the Air Force to the Federal Aviation Administration. His work took him to the Seattle area and later to Cascade, where he and Hannelore spent many years enjoying the mountain life before returning to the Boise area.
Jack had a real knack for technology and mechanics and spent much of his career working as a radar technician. He was meticulous in everything he did and believed in taking the time to do things correctly. Outside of his work, he enjoyed music and kept a steady rotation of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley in his collection.
Those who knew Jack knew him as a straight arrow. He was principled, loyal, and honest to the core, and he carried himself with a quiet steadiness that defined the way he lived his life.
He is survived by his two sons, Tom and Kelly; his granddaughter, Cassie Phippen; his sisters, Linda and Cheryl; and many nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will take place at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
