Donald “Don” Eugene Montgomery, 73, of Garden City, Idaho, passed away peacefully at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise on October 7th, 2026.
Don lived a life that took him down several different paths. He served in the United States Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Don explored various careers, including work as a police officer in Caldwell and on the road as a truck driver. A reluctant world traveler, Don also spent time living in Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Thailand in addition to his travel throughout the US during different military postings and truck-driving routes.
In his free time, Don enjoyed bowling, playing video games, having dinners with his son and grandkids, chats with his friends, and doing puzzles alongside his beloved dogs, Chico and Chino. A private person by nature, Don generally kept to himself and enjoyed spending time with his own interests interspersed with his rigid weekly schedule of washing the car, getting groceries, and enjoying a Wendy’s Triple for his weekly treat.
He is survived by his sister, Donna Scott, three half-brothers, two children, eight grandchildren, and other extended family members.
Don’s life was shaped by many different experiences and interests. He leaves behind a story that was uniquely his own and memories that will remain with those who knew him and were lucky enough to call him a friend.
A Celebration of Life is currently being planned. Please check back for further details.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
