Vernon “Vern” Ray Green, 89, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He married the love of his life, Marcia Rae (Vitley) Green, on August 5, 1961, in Mountain Home, Idaho.
Vern lived a fulfilling life as a devoted husband, father, and sailor. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He spent over 24 years in the military, beginning in the National Guard and later serving more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired from military service in 1981. Vern then worked for World Airways in California before returning to Idaho, where he worked for Paramount Supply until his retirement in 2006.
In his youth, Vern proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction he held in high regard throughout his life.
Vern is survived by his four sons: Jeff Whitaker, Bob Whitaker (Sherry), Brian Green, and Kelly Green. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcia Green; his son, Rick Whitaker; daughter-in-law, Marci Whitaker; his parents, Nola and Harold Green; two brothers, Bill and Tom; and two sisters, Virginia and Sharon.
Vern will be remembered for his love of family, his service to his country, and the many lives he touched along the way.
A committal service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, August 25, 2025 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho.
A celebration of life will be held, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Rustic Acres Clubhouse, 501 Greenleaf St., Boise, Idaho.
