Thomas James Mercer (Tom) died in Meridian, ID on July 21st 2021 after living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) for 10 years.
Tom was born in Great Falls, Montana, on June 27th, 1954, the oldest child of Henry E. and Margaret E. (Dick) Mercer, in Great Falls, Mont. Tom was a devoted husband, a loving and involved father, and was delighted to become a grandfather in his final year. He taught himself coding which gave him his dream job of 29 years at Micron. Tom loved a good pun almost as much as he enjoyed gardening, which he excelled at. He loved life, and after his ALS diagnosis liked to state that he had outlived his expiration date three times. He was passionate about Scripture; he had a Psalm for every occasion; and he fulfilled his dream of visiting Israel three times. He loved to discuss ideas with his many friends and was a mentor to all children around him. He was an amazing gardener and passed on his wealth of knowledge to anyone who wanted a garden of their own.
Memorial service will be at Holy Trinity Episcopalian in Meridian ID on 7/30/21 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers please hug your loved ones and tell each other a silly dad joke that makes you groan.
