Shawn Wayne Hodges
February 17, 1971 – June 25, 2022
Shawn was born in Walnut Creek, California to Stanley and Barbara Hodges. His father was an Engineer and Navy Seal; his mother an Operating Room Nurse. He had one sibling, a brother who died before Shawn was born.
Growing up he was an accomplished athlete, avid runner and Olympic hopeful. Shawn followed in his father’s footsteps. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Structural Engineering. After completing his education, he joined the Army and was a member of the Special Forces, ultimately serving six years traveling the world while serving our country.
Upon return, he was invited to join the Ski Patrol at Vail and Breckenridge, Colorado resorts. He was a thrill seeker, always looking for his next adventure. He raced high speed trophy trucks in the Baja with his Dad. His love of surfing went deep, even building a home in Scorpion Bay, Mexico to escape to.
Shawn had a smile and energy that could light up a room and instantly drew people to him. He was an amazing storyteller and made everyone feel like they had known him forever. After being diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a rare type of blood cancer, he made it his mission to connect even more deeply with those around him. He made absolutely certain you knew how much he loved and appreciated you.
He is survived by his two sons, Riley and Roland; his two bonus children, Dominick and Dania, and his wife, Natalie Mourant Hodges. He is deeply missed by so many and will never be forgotten.
His remains will be placed at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery to honor the sacrifices made by this hero. A celebration of his life will be held at Dude DeWalt Winery, a setting special in the hearts of both Shawn and Natalie.
If desired, donations may be made in his name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
