Scott Thorp November 2, 1949 - June 21, 2021

Scott Harvey Thorp

Scott Harvey Thorp, 71 of Meridian, ID, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, after a two-week hospital stay. He was able to spend that final afternoon with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, James (Jay) Manuel Thorp and Lois Ann Thompson and his brother Jay Clark (Corky) Thorp.

He leaves his wife, Sheryl (Sheri) K. Thorp and their two sons. Scott (Scotty) Nicholas, Scotty’s wife Danielle Elizabeth and grandson Chase Scott of Meridian, ID. Shane Christopher Thorp and his family Aimee Lea Beaudet and Zayah Wilder Cortright of Boise, ID.

Scott was born in Boise, ID, on November 2, 1949. He remained in Boise except for the time he spent serving his country in the United States Air Force. He was proud to be a Vietnam Vet. He worked as an auto, diesel, and forklift mechanic. His last position was at Albertson’s Sundries.

Scott was a car guy. Chevy guy to be exact. He was always working on one car or another. He rebuilt a wrecked Corvette which he drove in road races when he was in the Easy Valley Corvette Club. He beautifully restored a ‘69 Chevy Camaro. He enjoyed going to car shows and took pride in showing his cars. He spent a lot of years “pitting” for his friends at various races. His final project was the work he did on the ‘56 drag race car that the Boise racing world knew as Rowdy. He was thrilled that he was able to race it at Firebird Raceway before he passed away.

He spent a great deal of time in the mountains as a child, then as an adult where he shared this love with his family. He loved the four-wheeler and snowmobile trips he took with his family and friends. He and his father spent many hours cutting firewood, which they truly enjoyed. His sons will be burning that firewood for many years to come.

Scott kept a beautiful yard and was the man neighbors came to when they needed help with their cars or something at their home. He was a handy guy to have around.

He cherished the time he spent with Scotty working on a variety of car projects and rarely missed one of Shane’s baseball games. He was a little jealous he wasn’t the one out there playing himself. He was a good, hard-working man, father, grandfather, husband and friend that will be missed by so many.

There will be a public committal service at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

The family invites everyone to a reception in Scott’s honor following the service at Idaho Pizza on the corner of State Street and Eagle Road.
