Ricky Bill Child April 12, 1964 - May 24, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we say goodbye to our beloved son, brother, and friend, Ricky Bill Child. Ricky was born in Ogden, Utah, on April 12, 1964. He graduated from Bonneville High School. A wonderful, natural hand with horses, Rick trained and raced horses at Les Bois Racetrack back in its heyday and all remember him as the family “horse whisperer.” He understood that with great responsibility and talent with horses came hard work: during the summer, he could often be found bucking hay and cleaning stalls. Rick was not afraid of work and he put his heart into all he did. He worked for Peasley Transfer and Storage for approximately 20 years and was most recently employed with the Idaho Youth Ranch Distribution Center at the time of his death. He was a gentle, kind, and generous soul to all who knew him and we will miss him dearly. We are grateful he graced our lives as long as he did and wish he could have stayed with us longer. Rick is survived by his father Bill Child and stepmother Lois Child of Boise, Idaho; stepfather Rick Jensen of Ogden, Utah; brothers Chet and Justin Child and sister Amber Ullieari of Ogden, Utah; and stepbrothers Michael and Brian Chadwell and stepsister Teresa Williams of Boise, Idaho.  Our Ricky was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jensen of Ogden, Utah, and stepbrother, David Chadwell of Boise, Idaho. We will remember him well.

I worked with Rick at IYR and we were friends from the day he arrived. He was hard working and yet totally calm and efficient. I completely understand why horses would have trusted him and even loved him.

I miss him every time I look at the little table where he kept his things.

When he left us, each time I heard the commercial looking for flaggers I told everyone that’s where he went. After so many years of hard labor, he deserved to stand in one spot, wearing a big sun hat, holding a sign and a walkie talkie, and making a lot more money while doing it.

I am blessed that I knew him and sad that we lost him so soon.

Ricky and I were good friends and We did a lot together years ago. We had some good times he had a dog he named C’mere and that was a classic for years that we laughed about. Ricky is a great man. Keep riding my friend.
