Mary was born in 1936 to Charles and Ida Noble and raised in Leadore Idaho along with two older brothers, Glen and Don. They all lived on the Benson Family Ranch raising cattle and hay before moving into town. At age 18 she packed her suitcase, caught the bus, moved to Idaho Falls and got a job as a telephone operator.
Mary moved to Boise in 1954 to attend St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1957 as a registered nurse. Her class is listed as the last class at the hospital school before it moved to Boise State College. She went on to work 40 plus years at St. Lukes.
In 1957 Mary married Bill Rode in Garden Valley Idaho and spent their first two summers living in the Idaho Back Country while Bill worked for the Forest Service. They were married and lived in Eagle for 59 years before Bill passed away in 2016.
Mary was a wonderful mother of two daughters, Diana and Lynda, and was involved in all their activities from school, 4-H programs with sheep, horses, beef, to several years with rodeos.
Mary was also a wonderful grandma to Charles and his wife Kristen Hurlbert, Austin and his wife Kayla Knight, and Rikki and her husband Chris Knutson. And most recently a great-grandma to Joseph and Hudson Hurlbert, and Bradley, Henry, and Jana Knutson. She was preceded in death by two little angels, grandson Brad Hurlbert and great-granddaughter Kennedy Hurlbert.
Per Mary’s wishes, a graveside service will be held May 12, 2022 at The Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:00pm. Please arrive at 12:45pm for escort to the service alcove. Services are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Mary’s name to your favorite charity.

I am so sorry for your loss. It was a joy to care for your mom. I enjoyed making her tea and talking about her years as a nurse. We will miss her! God bless
