Martha Alice Carney Atkinson, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2021.
She was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on December 22, 1928 to the late Ella and Henry Carney, and lived in Idaho since 1959, where she raised her family.
Martha’s love of animals was known to all in the family, and her love of animals did not end with her beloved dogs—it extended to the birds, squirrels, raccoons, and many wild cats who visited her in her yard over the years. She was an avid reader who also loved putting together puzzles, completing dot-to-dots and word puzzles, and playing Yahtzee. She was also a life-long fan of Elvis and nickel slots.
Martha is preceded in death by her son Fredrick M. Landrum and daughter Pamela M. Williams.
Martha is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William L. “Red” Atkinson; her children Donna Jean Reedy of Nampa, ID; Robert O. Landrum and his wife Hilda of Lexington, NC; Beverly E. Martindale and her husband Herschel of Reno, NV; William L. “Bill” Atkinson and wife Sissy of Horseshoe Bend, ID; her 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Barbara Bryant of Clarksville, TN.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 11:30 am at Bowman Funeral Parlor located at 10254 W. Carlton Bay Garden City, Idaho with a committal service to follow at The Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. To watch the service go to https://www.bowmanfuneral.com/livestream/.
