Lois Karine Carpender April 14, 1931 - February 16, 2023

Lois Karine Moss Carpender, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, age 91 passed away peacefully at home in the tender care of her sweetheart of almost 72 years on February 16, 2023.

Lois was born April 14, 1931, in Choteau, Montana to Rulon and Karine Moss, the second child of five children.  Her father worked for the government in farm labor camps and pulled up roots as many as three to four times per year and moved from one side of the state to the other. She attended many different elementary schools and had numerous adventures with her brothers and sisters, Carroll, Verna, Melba and Don. When the war ended, they settled in Boise, ID, where she attended North Junior High School and graduated from Boise High School in 1950. She worked at numerous theaters with her sisters including the Ada/Egyptian, Realto and Rio theaters and she and her sister Melba were the first usherettes at the Vista theater. After graduating from High School, she worked for Lemke Heating as a receptionist.

She met Marion “Carp” Carpender in 1950 in Boise on a blind date. They were later married on her birthday April 14, 1951. Shortly afterwards the guard was activated because of the Korean conflict, and they moved to Georgia, then California for a year and then back to Boise where they raised their five kids. During the time the kids were in school, Lois worked in the St. Luke’s Hospital Coffee Shop for 14 years.

Lois loved her family and enjoyed doing things together with her children, as well as extended family, particularly her two sisters and their families. She was a great cook and mastered their family budget to provide the best meals, as well as providing everything her family needed.

Lois loved traveling in their motorhome and visited all 50 states. They loved fishing, camping, water skiing and boating, softball and golf. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her husband Marion Carpender, her children Terri Sessions, son-in-law Max (Marla) Stith, Barbara Carpender, Susan (Ole) Olsen, and Randy Carpender; her sister Melba Beck; eight grandkids, five great-grandkids and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death include her daughter Linda Stith, her parents Rulon and Karine Moss, her siblings Carroll (Amy) Moss, Verna (Paul) Dearstyne, Don (Mary Alice) Moss.

The family would like to thank Jennifer and Jon Anderson for their care and support at Salmon Creek Retirement Center.

Services will be held, 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr., Garden City, Idaho.

What fond memories I have of spending time in Lois and Marion’s home with my cousins while my dad attended education meetings in Boise. We always felt welcome and knew fun times were in store. As years passed, visits to Boise were always looked forward to as we visited over breakfast or dinner. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
