Our loving mother, wife, sister, Juanita Lee Claspell Peterson returned to her Heavenly Father on April 15, 2022 in Boise, Idaho, at the age of 73. She leaves a legacy of calming love, patience and kindness.
Juanita was born in July, 1948 in Muncie, Indiana to Wilma Margaret Anderson Claspell and James Lewis Claspell, with two brothers, David and James (Buddy), and one sister Patricia.
She grew up in Muncie and attended high school at Muncie Southside, going on to attend college at Ball State University and then Brigham Young University, where she earned a degree in Education. In addition to a degree in Education, she dated Steven D. Peterson there, fell in love, and married him on August 21, 1971 in the Manti temple in Manti, Utah.
Juanita and Steve went on to live in Chicago, IL, Ft. Leonardwood, MO; Dugway, UT; Muncie, IN; Hilliard, OH; Ft. Wayne, IN; Medford, OR; and finally in Boise, ID.
Juanita enjoyed reading, conversation, and sewing. She sewed all of her own clothes in college and taught her children and grandchildren how to sew. Most of all, Juanita loved family. Her idea of a perfect day was being together with Steve, and her children and grandchildren. Like when the whole family gathered in the Summer of 2021 to celebrate Steve & Juanita’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Juanita is survived by her husband Steve, her children (and spouses) Robert (Lucia), Christina Peterson Brenchley, James (Carissa), Julianne Curtis (Jared), and Catherine Hanks (Eli), plus 12 grandchildren.
Farewell gentle Juanita. We love you and will miss you so much. God be with you ‘til we meet again.
A funeral service will be held, 11:00 am, Monday, May 9, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2090 N. Eagle Rd., with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am. A private family committal will take place at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise.
