Juanita Garza passed away in her home on May 18th, 2021 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Donna, Texas on February 14th, 1949 she spent much of her life making things better for those around her. She raised not one, but two generations of the Garza family, a testament to her strong will and resourcefulness. She started as a farmworker in the fields and followed the harvest, going from Texas to Idaho as the seasons changed. For nearly two decades she enjoyed her time as a nanny and as she got to know them they were added to the extended family.
Juanita enjoyed sewing and making things with yarn, often making crocheted hats and blankets to give as presents. Gardening was another passion of hers and her garden was often full of beautiful flowers and produce. Accordingly, she was an expert canner. During her time as a grandmother she started many family traditions, with her granddaughters, including making pumpkin empanadas in the fall, tamales at Christmas and frying buñuelos for New Year’s Eve.
She is survived by her husband, Rodolfo Garza, her children, Diana, Rudy and his wife Christina, and Elisa Garza, and 6 granddaughters, Alyna, Sofia, Natalie, Belen, Victoria, and Elaine and 3 step grandchildren, Jordan, Isaiah and Izel.
