Joanne H. Clingan
8/14/1936 – 12/8/2022
After rereading old letters from Mason, Joanne drifted to sleep and the following day December 8, 2022 she joined her eternal soulmate, and other family members and friends in Heaven.
Joanne was born August 14, 1936 in the small Northern California mining/timber town of Grass Valley. She was the youngest of the three children of Frank L. Hooper and Isabel (Bennallack) Hooper. Her older two siblings were a brother Clint and sister Nina. The family was of proud Cornish Heritage. In her youth, Joanne spent much of her time with her many relatives and “Cousin Jack/Jenny’s” which were friends who were considered family in the Cornish Tradition.
While in High School she met a new boy, Mason, whose family had bought a nearby ranch. Their friendship turned to dating after their graduation. After their graduation Mason joined the Marine Corp. And their dating continued in the form of letters. Through these letters their inseparable bond and love grew. On August 10, 1957 they married. Joanne joined Mason at his Marine post in Hawaii. It was while living in Hawaii, they welcomed their first child Scott.
After Mason’s discharge from the Marine Corp they returned to the ranch near Grass Valley. It was here 4 other children were born, Unfortunately, the first 2 children (David and Deborah) were angel babies that died shortly after birth. Then came Sarah and Stephen and the family was complete.
In 1968 they bought a ranch of their own in Eagle, Idaho. Eagle is where they raised their family and would live the rest of their lives. Joanne was a kind gracious ranch wife. She could drive the tractors, help feed the cattle, and take the kids to rodeos on the weekends. She worked part time while the children were little at the local mercentile/drug store, Orville Jackson’s/Eagle Drug. After the children grew up, she worked at the Emporium and finally at John Alden Life in Boise, where she retired.
After retirement Mason and Joanne bought a camper and boat. They enjoyed camping and fishing especially with longtime friend Norm and Marilyn Edwards. They even traveled to the Oregon coast and took their boats fishing in the ocean.
Mason and Joanne were inseperable. Joanne continually mourned the passing of Mason in 2020. She would frequently reread the letters Mason wrote to her during their dating and engagement period. They sat prominently near her bed, so she could keep him close in his physical absence.
Joanne was presceded in death by her beloved husband Mason, infant children David and Deborah, parents Frank and Isabel, and siblings Clint and Nina.
She is survived by children Scott Clingan (Rheta) of Donnelly, ID, Sarah Rosenlund (Joe) of Moxee, WA, Stephen Clingan (Debbie Merkley) Jiggs, NV; grandchildren Mason (Drusilla) Clingan, Christopher Clingan, Stephenie (Dexter) Barnes, Sydnee Clingan, step grandchildren Jamie (Clint) Hollister, Adam (Olivia) Rosenlund, and 5 great grandchildren Tana, Chet and Aria Clingan, Killian Hollister, and Rowan Barnes.
