Herbert “Herb” Ray Farnlund went to be with his Lord and personal Savior at home on January 7, 2019. Herb was born on February 6, 1932, in Ketchum, Idaho, and lived in Idaho all his life. He lived in Ketchum, Mountain Home, and Boise. He attended Boise High School. He joined the Navy after high school. He served four years on two ships in the Pacific during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in November 1954. While home on leave, he married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Baxter, on Oct. 19, 1952.
After discharge from the Navy, Herb worked as a local truck driver in Boise from 1954 to 1988. From 1988 until he retired in 1995, he was self-employed as a home remodeler and finish carpenter. He enjoyed many hobbies in his lifetime including hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, woodworking, gardening, oil painting, and lapidary. After retiring, he and Marlene enjoyed many RV trips across the country, an annual trip to the Oregon Coast and many camping trips around Idaho.
Herb was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Boise. He served in many ministries there over the years. Herb was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and greatly loved by all his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marlene; his children Diana (DeWayne) Patrick, Doug Farnlund, Sharon O’Neal, and Carol (Craig) Hunsaker, all of Boise, 11 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, brother Harold Farnlund (Pocatello) and sisters, Elva Vogt (Boise), Violet Smart (Boise), and Irene (Alan) Missman (Melba) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 12, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 607 N. 13th St., Boise. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Helping Hands Fund, First Baptist Church.
