Gerald Edwin Ode
Gerald Edwin Ode was born in Inglewood, California, on August 22nd, 1943 to Victor and Ruby (Shell) Ode, recent transplants from Kansas.
He grew up in Westchester, California. He married Florence Hays on April 2nd, 1966 at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bakersfield. They later divorced.
He joined the United States Coast Guard on June 30th, 1964 and served honorably for thirty-one years. He retired with the rank of Master Chief Electronics Technician in 1995. During his time in service, he spent a total of five years, 13 days, at sea: one of his tours of duty being on the USS Glacier in 1986. His residences included Governors Island, New York; Novato, California; Kodiak, Alaska; Vancouver, Washington; and Menominee, Michigan.
He enjoyed photography, dancing, and gambling.
After retiring, he traveled from his home in Michigan to visit his grandchildren in their homes scattered from Florida to Alaska.
He is survived by one sister, four children, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A private committal service with military honors will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021.
