Eugene (Gene) E Guthrie

Gene was born January 8, 1928 in Payette, Idaho and passed away peacefully at home on September 8th, 2019. He was the son of Iva Guthrie and Florence Kelsey. Gene married Betty Bulmer in Payette, Idaho and they had three daughters, Julie, May and Jan. In 1970, Gene married Diana Bouchard and brought 2 daughters, Kellie and Shelli to the family. They added to their family with a son, Shawn. Gene enlisted in the Navy and was a World War II veteran. He worked for Idaho Power and Trailways Bus Company before entering Boise State University at age 42 and received his degree in Secondary Education in 1971. He attended the University of Idaho and received his Masters degree in School Administration. He was a teacher at Lowell Scott Junior High School in Meridian, Idaho from 1973 until 1979, then be became a K-12 Principal in Troy, Idaho. In 1983 he became High School Principal in Post Falls, Idaho. He and Diana moved to Federal Way, Washington in 1986 and he became the Curriculum/Classroom Instructor for the Commercial Trucking Company. After retiring he was a full time school substitute teacher in the Federal Way School District in Federal Way, Washington and continued working until his wife Diana retired from the same school district. They retired and returned to Boise, Idaho. Gene leaves his wife Diana, son Shawn (Ursula) Guthrie, daughters Julie(Randy)Korthals, May(Greg)Cleaver, Jan(Ed)Sprague, step-daughter Shelli(Larry)Martin/Hinshaw. Grandsons Nick Korthals, Chad Hickox, Noah Guthrie, Luke Cleaver, Andrew Cleaver. Granddaughters Jaime Finch, Megan Korthals, Kate Korthals, Jamie DiFalco, Sarah Cleaver, Caitlin Esser, Jasmine and Savanh Inthapanyavongsa. Great Grandsons Mason and Lucas DiFalco, Silas and August Hickox. Great Granddaughters Madyline Guthrie and Lily Esser. Gene was preceded in death by his father Iva Guthrie, mother Florence Kelsey, Step father Charles Wells, sister Sharon Hall, son in law Randy Korthals and step daughter Kellie Pfeiffer. Thank you to St Luke’s Hospice staff that provided such loving care and comfort to Gene and his family.
Services will be held at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at the Columbrium Memorial Wall, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Boise, Idaho 83701, September 20, 2019 at 1:45.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 at the El Korah Shrine Club, 1118 W Idaho St. Boise, Idaho 83702.
