Dorothy Jane McWilliams February 8, 1926 - January 30, 2022

DOROTHY JANE McWILLIAMS, 1926-2022

Dorothy Jane Chapman McWilliams passed to a new life peacefully in her sleep on January 30, 2022. She was born February 8, 1926, to Georgia (Fleming) and Benjamin Chapman in Crawford County, Missouri. After high school graduation she worked in a munitions factory in St. Louis, Missouri.

She met Jeronimo “Mac” McWilliams during WWII. After the war, she married Mac on December 1, 1945, and they made their home in New Mexico and later in Colorado. They had three children: Betty, Carol and Mike. They were happily married for over 50 years.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was steadfast and loyal. She loved having her family altogether around her. No matter where she lived, family was home. She never complained about any hardships or changes she faced, but rather did all she could to smooth out any complications or difficulties. Dorothy enjoyed her family and friends. She loved reading, quilting (everything hand quilted) and gardening. She was a farm girl at heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeronimo, in 2001 and her daughter, Carol Gallegos in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Lee) Gomez,  son-in-law, Julian Gallegos, and son, Mike (June); grandchildren Vikki (Scott) Vail, Carrie Riggs, Tiffiny Rhodes, Jered (Audra) Gallegos, Tara Gallegos, Steven (Robina) McWilliams and Michael (Kami) McWilliams; great-grandchildren Austin, Micaela and Matthew Vail, Rachel and Gavin Riggs, Kait and Garret Rhodes, Luisa Gallegos,  Taya Nicoson (Shane),  Alyssa, Andrew, Sarah, Helen,  and Monica McWilliams and great-great-grandchildren Brooklyn Vail, Brody and Bryson Boehlke.

Memorial Services will be held in Durango, Colorado this summer.
