Dorothy Hitt April 20, 1935 - April 11, 2023

Dorothy (Dot) Verlene Hitt (Moran)

April 20, 1935- April 11, 2023

Dear wife, mother, and grandmother. Her absence is a silent grief, her life a beautiful memory.

Dorothy was born in Caldwell, Idaho on April 20, 1935 to John (Dale) and Fern Moran. She was the oldest of two children, and was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dorman (Butch) Dale Moran.

She graduated from Caldwell High school in 1953, and shortly thereafter she met Robert Dale Hitt. One of her fondest memories is when, 23 days later, he got down on one knee and proposed and then married her on December 11, 1955. They were happily married for 53 years before he preceded her in death.

Dorothy and Bob had four sons; Ron, Randy, Rusty, and Richard. Dorothy dedicated her life to being a wife and mother, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and baking for her family. She also helped run a family postal business, “The Mail Room” on the boulevard in Nampa in the late 1980s, where her kind heart resulted in giving too many discounts. Dorothy was a lifelong churchgoer, and a member of Legacy Life Church in Meridian (now called C7.24).

Her sons gave her 16 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren, and she was beloved “Grandma Dot” to them all. In fact, in her later years, she was lovingly called
“Grandma Dot” to all who met her, young and old. She loved to have the children visit her so she could give them kisses and treats like marshmallows, and yogurt covered raisins. She was preceded in death by  her great grandson, Andrew Robert Hitt, and dear friend and daughter-in-law, Sharon Hitt.

Dorothy had great sense of humor, and all who knew her will remember her witty sayings like “I was more lost than a skunk in a perfume factory” or “You’re busier than a paper hanger in a windstorm.” She could always be counted on to have a reply to try to bring a smile to your face, even if she was lying in a hospital bed with a broken hip. That humor and wit will certainly be missed.

The family will be having a memorial service that is open to all who knew Dorothy. This will be held on May 2, 2023 at Bowman Funeral Home at 10254 W. Carlton Bay, Garden City, ID 83714.

Viewing will be at 11:00 AM, and memorial service will be at 12:00 PM
