Doris Mae McKinley
Doris Mae Sommers McKinley, 96, of Eagle Idaho, passed away on January 2, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born in Sacramento, California on September 23, 1922, to Adolph and Anna Bertha (Schreier) Sommers. Doris was the seventh of twelve children.
Doris is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Francis David McKinley, her parents, seven brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by her children Cynthia (Neil W.) Payne of Eagle, Idaho, Jacque (Larry N.) Terry of Pocatello, Idaho, and Frank (Debra G.) McKinley of Layton, Utah; her 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous loving relatives and close friends.
Serving her family, church, her community, and children in her care were all cornerstones throughout Doris’s life. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve in many leadership positions, including Stake MIA President, Ward Primary and Relief Society President. She was a longtime teacher at Montecito Preschool in Los Altos, California, retiring after over two decades of service. After moving to Idaho in 2003, Doris served as president of the Spring Creek Subdivision HOA until she was 92.
Her family is grateful to the many caretakers who lovingly looked after her during her last days, in particular, the staff members at Paramount Parks Assisted Living and Heart and Home Hospice whose service to our mother is greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1133 N. Park Lane, Eagle Idaho, at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a viewing at 9:30 a.m. Graveside services will be at Dry Creek Cemetery, where she be laid to rest beside her husband.
