Donald Jay Brinton, ‘Don,’ was born on January 17, 1939, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Weldon Thomas Brinton and Ida Gardner. He was the middle child, with an older sister, Alice and a younger sister, Sharon. He graduated High School in 1956 from Flagstaff High School. His first marriage was to Brenda Bagwell, in 1957. They were blessed with a son, Jay Bagwell. His second marriage was to his eternal sweetheart, Sheila Louise Sands, on July 3, 1961, in Flagstaff, Arizona. Their marriage to each other was sealed in the Mesa Arizona temple in 1964. They were blessed with five children, Robert, Michael, Linda, Jenalyn, and William (Andy) Brinton. Don was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Don lived in Flagstaff, AZ, Phoenix, AZ, Canoga Park, CA, Concord, CA, and for the last 40 years in Eagle, ID. His work included being a surveyor, various roles at AT&T for 29 years, and an Insurance Agent for 17 years, including owning his own business, Gold Medallion Insurance, in Eagle, Idaho. Don served in the Army Reserves for 8 years during the Vietnam war era.
Don was an avid gardener and enjoyed seeing the fruits of his labors at harvest time. He enjoyed family road trips, composing silly songs, and eating ice cream! He was a great example of hard work, humility, kindness, and self-reliance. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in various callings. Don always maintained an unwavering testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He found great joy serving others, including with the Boy Scouts of America for over 17 years, the Eagle Planning & Zoning Commission for seven years, and was a charter member of the Eagle Lions Club. Don also enjoyed photography, a hobby he combined with that of birdwatching with his wife to create a beautiful photographic collection of family and nature.
Don was preceded in death by his father and mother. Surviving family members include his wife, Sheila Louise Brinton; his children Jay (Amy) Bagwell of Farmington, UT, Robert Brinton of Boise, ID, Mike (Shelley) Brinton of Caldwell, ID, Linda (Dan) Chaney of Eagle, ID, Jenalyn (Brent) Bishop of Lehi, UT, Andy (Bonnie) Brinton of Spanish Fork, UT; 33 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Brinton of Mesa, AZ and Sharon (Ray) Chase of Franklin, ID.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 700 W State Street, Eagle, ID. Family will be greeting guests beginning at 9:30 am. Service following at 10:30 am. Burial will be at the Dry Creek Cemetery in NW Boise, Idaho.
