Dirk G Erickson peacefully passed in his home on August 21st, 2020 after a very courageous and hard fought battle with cancer.
Dirk was born May 24th, 1967 to Gaylord and Bonnie Erickson. He was the youngest of five children. Dirk has two older sisters, Suzanne and Lynette, and two older brothers, Todd and Brad. Dirk graduated from Borah High School in Boise, Idaho, and shortly after high school married Jill. Dirk and Jill later separated; together they had seven children, Alex, Oliver, Chase, Eli, Maggie, Fisher, and Billy.
Dirk joined the Air Force and was stationed at Fort Walton Beach, Florida for four years. After his military service he returned to Boise, Idaho to raise his kids closer to family. He spent over 20 years working in the information technology field. He loved computers and how they functioned. He could help anyone with software issues. Dirk also loved to work on cars and could often be found teaching his boys how to solve mechanical issues. He rarely hired a mechanic. If you had a car or computer problem Dirk would be the first one to offer to help you solve it.
Dirk loved to serve others. He lived a life full of service towards his family and those around him. He always put others needs before his own. Dirk is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and is a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He has served, and we know he continues to serve in many capacities in the church and loves every assignment.
In 2012 Dirk met the love of his life, Heidi Jo Chandler. They were married November 9, 2013 and later sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple on July 23, 2016. Heidi brought four children to the marriage, Chandler, Dylan, Carly, and Chloe. Together they blended 11 amazing children.
Dirk loved his family fiercely. He embraced each new member of his family with love and rejoiced in the expansion of his family. He has four daughter in laws, two son in laws, five adoring grandsons, and one precious granddaughter. Dirk loved being together with all of his family gathered in his home. Dirk would do anything to care for all of his family including doing everything in his strength to fight cancer this last year to be with them longer.
In Dirk’s spare time he could be found on the basketball court, golf course, or out walking with his puppy.
Dirk was preceded in death by his mother Bonnie, nephew Tyler, and niece Kassi Jo. The family would like to thank MSTI, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Keystone Hospice for their loving care. Dirk is an example of Christlike love. He loves the Savior and exemplifies Christlike qualities.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1133 Park Lane Eagle, Idaho. Condolences maybe left at www.bowmanfuneral.com

August 26, 2020 at 7:54 pmI’m so very sorry to learn of Dirk’s passing. I only know Dirk from playing basketball but I played with him for years. It was always good times. I’d texted with Dirk since his surgery and he told me he was feeling good, only had to take a week off work, and would be back playing basketball in a month or two (as you’d expect from Dirk). And so it was….he was back playing ball. So it was shocking to hear that he’d passed away. He was such a gentle, kind man. My heart aches for his large family that he leaves behind. My blessed condolences. I’ll very much miss Dirk.

August 28, 2020 at 12:51 pmSo very sorry for your loss. I met Dirk at HP but not where you would expect, on the volleyball court during our lunch time. It was Dirk and I who always wanted to kick the ball like soccer players, and once in a while we got a great return in! He will be greatly missed, not only on the court, but in our day-to-day life. He remains forever loved by all who crossed his path. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

August 29, 2020 at 11:29 amMy condolences to you, Gaylord, and to all your many family members. I didn’t know Dirk was sick. I didn’t know him well at all but have always been grateful for his checking around for me online to find my next car when I needed one quickly, and that you drove Bud and I out of town to check it out and buy it. That kindness and thoughtfulness are hallmarks of you Ericksons, as I see it. I pray you all are comforted during this hard time.
