Darrell J. Youngblood, 88, passed away peacefully at the Boise VA Medical Center on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
Darrell was born on November 10, 1932, in Yocum, Arkansas, the son of Ralph and Ella Mae Youngblood. In July 1936, they moved out West to Idaho in a one-ton truck with 20 passengers…ages 2 months to 43 years old. Darrell was 3 years and 8 months old at that time. He attended schools in Weiser, Idaho.
In 1950, at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in Medical Co., 4th Infantry serving in Illinois, Missouri, Alaska, and while stationed in Virginia, he met the love of his life, Patsy Hall Gordon…they were married on January 12, 1952, in Arlington, Virginia.
Darrell and Pat were blessed with two sons, Lloyd Dean, born in 1952, and Randy Lee in 1957.
Darrell was always a hard worker, spending a lot of time farming and ranching in Weiser and Ontario. In 1960, they moved to Boise where he was employed at the Idaho Transportation Department for 31 years, working his way up to Right of Way Agent.
In 1991, Darrell and Pat retired from ITD and took their first of many yearly get-aways to Arizona. They made a lifetime of memories and lifelong friends. Darrell will be remembered for his many stories, keen spirit, quick wit, loving heart, and he and Pat’s incredible love story that has inspired those around them for 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Randy, brother Lloyd Lee and brother-in-law Vic Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife, his son, Lloyd Dean and wife Michelle and sister Lois Smith of Boise. Darrell is also survived by three granddaughters, Lindsay, Autumn and her husband Andy, and Cortney of Idaho Falls; nine great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends he considered family.
A special thank you to the staff at the Boise VA Medical Center, the MorningStar Senior Living Community, friends and family for their kindness, caring and love shown as well as their support to his family. To all of you, God’s Blessings.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.

March 11, 2021 at 9:42 amWhen we moved into Boise, Darrell and Pat were among the first neighbors to welcome us to the neighborhood. We remember all the good conversations about Idaho life, forest trail rides, and their adventures in Arizona. So many experiences from a life filled with love! We miss you Darrell.
