Daniel Keith Hackenberg, 69, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2024 after complications following heart surgery.

Dan was born on March 12, 1955 to Robert and Mary Hackenberg in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  After Dan graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1973, he went on to study Electrical Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Upon graduating in 1979 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he started his first job at Mobile Oil, kickstarting a 44-year career in engineering and management as a federal government contractor.

In 1971, Dan met the love of his life, Kathy, in their church youth group at Lake Harriet Baptist Church.  They went on to have three children, Jeremy, Jordan, and Joshua.  Dan and Kathy remained a team through the joys and trials of life thanks to their steadfast love of Jesus.

Dan retired in 2023, finding joy in the time spent connecting with Kathy, kids, and grandkids.  When not completing projects around the house or indulging in good food, he was regularly found playing trucks, Legos, and games with his cherished grandchildren.

Those who knew Dan, whether close family or recent acquaintances, described him as genuine, compassionate, caring, and generous, invariably touching the lives of everyone with whom he crossed paths.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Palmer) Hackenberg, and his father, Robert R. Hackenberg.  He is survived by his wife Kathy, sons Jeremy (Hannah), Jordan (Sarah), and Joshua (Amber), as well as eight grandchildren (Moses, Ada, Zuzu, Levi, Adelynn, Noah, Theodore, and Nathaniel).  He is also survived by his sister, Deborah (Hackenberg) Olson, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and six nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church in Derwood, Maryland, where Dan served as an elder for 30 years, on Saturday, June 8, at 11:00 A.M, with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Deacon’s Fund at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church to support community members in need.
