Chuck Bloom September 13, 1937 - October 30, 2020

Chuck Bloom passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at his home in Boise.  Whether you called him dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, or just Chuck; his charismatic personality, kindness, amazing blue eyes, and humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Chuck was born the second child of Howard and Francis Bloom on September 13, 1937 in Glenns Ferry, Idaho.  Chuck grew up roaming and hunting the fields and river banks of the area in his youth and became a bit of a local legend with his charm and athletic talents.  Chuck found and married the love of his life Alta Mae Wolfe in Glenns Ferry.  They were married in 1957 and had 53 years together with numerous adventures and an incredible love for one another.  Chuck was never the same after Alta Mae passed.  They were a formidable team throughout their lives and needed each other.  Chuck’s career path led him from the McDonald’s Corporation to the YMCA and then finally to his own business Youth Basketball.  He was so proud of the program he ran for 38 years and all of the volunteers and program sponsors that helped it become one of the great basketball programs of the Treasure Valley.  Over the years, thousands of kids benefitted from Chuck’s “Everyone Plays” philosophy and his dedication to making sure all kids got a chance to participate and learn the sport he truly loved regardless of their abilities and financial situation.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Alta Mae; sister Kathy Reed; and sister Ginnie Bailey.

He is survived by his four children: Rick Bloom of Boise, Idaho; Pam and Gary Compton of Bellevue, Washington; Mike and Karla Bloom of Pocatello, Idaho; Chris and Angie Bloom of Boise, Idaho;  His brother: Dick and Sherry Bloom of Nampa, Idaho; His sister: Cynthia and Jody Allen of Glenns Ferry, Idaho: and his Sister in Law: Doris Shrum of Pocatello, Idaho.

Chuck also leaves behind 8 grandchildren:  Sandra and Mike Davis, Tyler and Tia Bloom, and Kara Anderson of Pocatello, Idaho: Brittney Lester of Nampa, Idaho;  Emma and Alex Bloom of Boise, Idaho; Nick Compton of Snohomish, Washington and Bryce Compton of MountLake Terrace, Washington.

12 knew him as Great Grandpa and 22 nieces and nephews called him Uncle Chuck.  Numerous others were temporarily adopted by Chuck:  Bob Shrum, Mike Phillips, Boo Heffner, Rob Wold, and Dan Drashner just to name a few.

You were truly one of a kind.

Thank you for everything!

Rest in Peace Chuck
