Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Evans, 79, passed away on October 12th in Boise, ID of natural causes. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 19th, from noon to 2, at Burger N’ Brew, 4295 W. State Street, Boise.
Bobbie was born April 9, 1940 to Harold N. and Ferne V. (Nash) Evans in Boise, ID. She always said she grew up with her parents, as they were young when she was born. Bobbie was 17 when she had her son, Randy Smith. She was always one for adventure traveling and living in Santa Barbara, Cheyenne, and Fairbanks, AK.
While Bobbie had several relationships, she met the love of her life, Loren “Keith” Drashner, the day her granddaughter, Tara, was born in 1979. They married and had a full life traveling, playing pool, loving on many pets including cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, sheep, and a (mean) donkey. Keith passed away in 2002 and Bobbie’s life was forever changed.
Bobbie’s career expanded several decades and included a variety of occupations including: beautician, bookkeeper, insurance agent, assistant in a school kitchen, and green house helper. She was a master gardener and had a passion for growing flowers and teaching others about gardening.
Bobbie loved every member of her family and grew up alongside many of her aunts and uncles. With that support system, she learned to speak her mind, you always knew where you stood, be compassionate, love animals, lead (she led the women’s pool league for years), be spontaneous, have a witty/dry sense of humor, laugh at herself, and be social to the end. From pool to horseshoes to pinochle, to Hand and Foot, to Maj Jong she loved a good competition and passed that down to her son and granddaughter. Her great-grandson isn’t nearly as competitive, except when playing card games with her! Aidan learned “if you’re second, you’re the first loser” from his great-grandma!
Bobbie was cantankerous to the end and wanted to continue to be social. Bobbie did not want to be a burden to anyone; she held her independence to the very end. Her last wish, which her family cannot grant, was to be place her remains in an urn in a busy hotel lobby. Instead she will be placed with Keith at the Veteran Cemetery where there are still many visitors to keep her spirit happy.
Bobbie is survived by her son, Randy; granddaughter, Tara (Jim) Thompson; great-grandson, Aidan Shaw; sister, Melody Evans (Dave Maynard); niece, Lyndsi Zapp, and many cousins and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, several aunts and uncles, and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Idaho Human Society or local organization focused on saving animals.
A celebration of life will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Burger N’ Brew, 4295 W. State St., Boise.
