Anthony S. (Tony) Rerecich passed away on June 13, 2023. He was born on October 7, 1945 in Manhattan and grew up in Queens. He attended Cornell University, graduating with a degree in Agriculture in 1966. After college, he was a founding member of the 199th light infantry regiment and deployed to Vietnam in December 1966, earning a bronze star and retiring as a Captain in 1972. After the military, he worked in computer programming for Lockheed in California, then moved to Hawai’i in 1973, where he worked for for Bank of Hawai’i and Computab. While there, he purchased a Westsail 32 sailboat, named Fly, and married Lois Boulware in 1976. They had four children, and the family moved to Boise in 1990, where Tony worked for Morrison Knudsen, ProData, and West One Bank, retiring from US Bank in 2006.
Tony was a lifelong runner. In college, he was part of the training team for Olympian Glenn Davis. In Hawai’i, he helped build a running community and grow the Honolulu Marathon into a major running event, and in Boise, he ran with several community groups, most notably the Y Striders, which was his group for over twenty years. He ran the Race to Robie Creek many times and was part of a team for the Hood to Coast Relay, and he also volunteered for several area races including the Zeitgeist Half Marathon, Sawtooth Marathon, Great Potato Marathon, and Y Strider Turkey Trot Relay. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral for many years and served as the Vestry Senior Warden, and he later attended All Saints Episcopal Church. In retirement, he devoted time to running and to genealogy, compiling a large database of his family history. Tony is survived by his wife, Lois Boulware, his children, Andrew, Lida, Matthew, and Mark, and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00 pm at All Saints Episcopal Church.
