William “Bill” David Critchfield, born in 1951 in Lynwood, California to William and Ilene Critchfield, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday , February 7, 2026.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Valene; and his brother, Kelly. He is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 37 years, Nancy Spencer Critchfield; his brother Dr. Bob Critchfield (Tracy); his sister Terri Lewis (Mitch); and his children: William Robert Critchfield (Tessie), Brian David Critchfield (Angie), Steven Scott Critchfield (Courtney), Jana Critchfield Yeager, Joseph Leo Critchfield (Stephanie), and John Clifton Critchfield (Dana). He also leaves behind 22 cherished grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.

Bill was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life, he faithfully served in many callings, including Ward Mission Leader and High Priest Group Leader. His testimony and dedication to service were evident in the way he lived and loved his family. In his youth, Bill excelled in athletics. He lettered in both basketball and football at Lynwood High School, earning San Gabriel Valley League Lineman of the Year honors and a scholarship to play football at Brigham Young University. He played for four years at BYU, where he also joined the ROTC program and earned a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement. Following his education, Bill served on Active Duty in the US Army as a Field Artillery officer for 2 years and then in the Reserve for another 6 years, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.

After his military service, Bill embraced his entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated several businesses, including Adventureland Video, Mrs. O’s Cinnamon Rolls, and Family Preparedness Now. A natural salesman, Bill believed he could sell anything he set his mind to—and often proved it. He took pride in his work, his determination, and his ability to connect with people. Above all, Bill was a man who loved his family deeply.

He will be remembered for his drive, his faith, his humor, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. He was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed.
