William “Bill” Chalmers, 95, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away December 19, 2022. William was born October 16, 1927, to parents David Chalmers and Margret Buchan Chalmers in Peterhead, Scotland.
Throughout Bill’s life he lived in many places, Scotland, California, Washington, and Idaho. Bill married Gertrude Louise Kalaskey in Palo Alto, California on December 27, 1981.
Much of Bill’s career was in the military. At the end of WW 2, he served in the British Navy and then fourteen years the Merchant Marines. When he retired, he came to the United States and had other careers in areas such as Semi-conductors, maintenance, and real estate. Bill had a handful of hobbies such as gardening, golfing, movies, tinkering, and travel. He also enjoyed learning about Scottish history, his own family history and culture.
Bill is survived by his wife Gertrude Chalmers; son, Donald (Terri) Hartley; daughter, Marie (Eric) Lichte; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brother David Chalmers and sister Margaret Roy.
A funeral service will be held, 3:00 pm, Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr., Garden City, Idaho, with a public viewing beginning at 2:00 pm.
