Virginia "Ginger" Delores Barger, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, in Boise, Idaho, at the age of 86.
Ginger was born on September 17, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Violet Virginia Gerritsen and Ronald Ellsworth Gerritsen. She was one of seven children, growing up alongside three sisters and three brothers.
Ginger spent much of her life in California before later settling in Oregon, where she lived in Lincoln City and Bend. In retirement, she moved to Boise, Idaho, where she remained close to family.
Ginger worked as a bank teller throughout her career, but her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was caring for her family. She devoted herself to creating a warm and welcoming home, and many of her family's favorite memories center around her kitchen table. Her crock pot of spaghetti sauce and Sunday family dinners became treasured traditions that brought loved ones together year after year.
Ginger was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and genuine concern for others. She loved spending time with family, whether sharing meals, traveling, camping, taking walks, or simply enjoying one another's company. She especially loved visiting Hawaii and California and also enjoyed memorable travels to Thailand and Washington, D.C.
Those who knew Ginger will remember the twinkle in her eye, her warm smile, and her wonderful sense of humor. One family story that perfectly captures her spirit occurred while traveling first class. When a flight attendant offered her several food options, Ginger cheerfully replied, “I'll take it all.” The story became a favorite family memory and reflected her joyful appreciation for life's experiences.
Together, Ginger and John shared 66 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, love, and lasting memories. Their enduring partnership was a testament to commitment, devotion, and the strength of family.
Ginger is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, John Russell Barger; her children, Ronald (Colleen) Barger, John (Jayme) Barger, and Deborah (Charles) Phantana; her four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters, all of whom will miss her dearly.
More than anything, Ginger will be remembered for the love she shared with her family. Her presence, laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved leave a legacy that will continue for generations.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that the love, traditions, and memories she created will continue to be shared around dinner tables, on family vacations, and in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
