Valerie M. Gifford, 89, of Boise, passed into the hands of our Lord on February 19th, 2023.

Valerie was born in Los Angeles, California on December 23rd, 1933.  She met her lifelong friend when she was very young, asking her next door neighbor JoAnn if she wanted to be her friend. They stayed in touch for over 85 years. Valerie attended Catholic elementary school; she and JoAnn later attended Fairfax High School. They were members of Job’s Daughters.

After Valerie’s mother died, she moved to Boise, Idaho in 1964 with her two children to be close to her brother, Leonard, and his family.  He was a wonderful big brother, who she loved and admired, and who was always there to give her comfort and advice.  She married Eddy Gifford on September 22, 1984, and they spent 20 amazing years together until his passing on October 23, 2004. She worked at the Bank of Idaho, Morrison-Knudsen, and at Ada County Records until her retirement.

Her greatest joy was being with her family – holiday meals, camping trips, and her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s school and athletic events. She also enjoyed sewing and often patched her family’s clothes that needed tender loving care.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (Larry) Green and Timothy (Tami) Hill; stepchildren, Kathy Greer, Jerry Gifford, Deanne Gifford, Janet (Tom) Rostock, and Craig Gifford; grandchildren Nicholas (Sue) Hill, Ryan Hill, and Sara (Justin) Praegitzer; great grandchildren Danner, Bridger, and soon to be Myles; niece Michelle (Earl) DeFur, and nephews Michael (Delores) Zborowski, and Mitch (Molly) Zborowski.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Eva Zborowski, her husband, Eddy Gifford, and her brother and his wife, Leonard and Jackie Zborowski.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Alphonsus Hospital, Riverview Rehabilitation, and Ancora Hospice.  There are no words that are worthy enough to express our appreciation for the care that was given to Valerie, her family, and her friends.

There will be a service at Bowman Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 27.  Viewing/visitation starts at 10:00 am, service starting at 10:30 am.

Interment at Dry Creek Cemetery immediately following.

There will be a celebration of Valerie’s life at Tim and Tami Hill’s following interment. 8900 W Clovis Drive, Boise.
