Obituary for Treva Jean Hamilton
Treva Jean (Helmick) Hamilton passed away after a long, happy life on Monday, September 18,
2023 at her home in Eagle, Idaho with her husband, daughters and loved ones by her side.
Treva was born in Hawthorne, Nevada on April 9th,1942. She was the youngest child of Lorena
(Marsh) Helmick and Neal John Helmick and the sister of three older brothers- Norman, Robert
and John Helmick. The family moved to Boise, Idaho in the 1950’s, first living near Hyde Park
and eventually on Jefferson street where she grew up. She attended North Junior High School
and graduated from Boise High School in 1960.
After graduation, she attended Boise Secretarial School and took classes at Boise Junior
College. She married William E. Rader of Garden City who had just completed a tour of duty
with the Air Force. They moved to Bethel, Alaska where their first daughter Sonja was born.
Subsequently they moved to Tillamook, Oregon where their second daughter, Erin was born.
The family moved to San Francisco in 1965 when Treva’s husband Bill got a position with KGO
TV as a camera operator.
Treva began her career as a bookkeeper for various companies in the San Francisco Bay Area,
following her divorce. She moved back to Boise in 1974 to assist her aging parents. While
raising children, caring for her parents, and working full-time, she successfully purchased her
first home on Bannock Street near Quinn’s Pond. We still remember her walking around the
yard hugging every tree; she was so proud of this accomplishment. This home remained in the
family until 2017.
At the Boise High School 20th reunion planning committee, she reconnected with a former
classmate, Roger V. Hamilton, whom she had known since childhood. They fell in love and
married April 8, 1991.
Treva worked for many years with Pioneer Title and Stewart Title as an escrow officer until
starting her own company Equity Services in the 1990’s. Her company provided specific niche
escrow services throughout Idaho. She also bought and sold real estate in Boise and the
surrounding area. Following her retirement she volunteered with the Idaho Military History
Museum, learned how to play golf and began a genealogy of her family, the Helmick’s and the
Marsh’s.
Treva was an intelligent, funny woman who was ahead of her time. She was always cheerful,
witty and quick with a joke. She loved politics, poetry, good music and a good party. She will be
deeply missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorena “Peggy” Helmick and Neal J. Helmick, her
brothers Norman Helmick, and John Helmick, and her nephew Matthew Helmick. She is
survived by her husband Roger V. Hamilton Sr, her two daughters, Sonja F. Griffith and Erin E
Wyld with partner John DeSalme, her oldest brother Robert Helmick and his wife Carol, and
nieces Wendi Helmick and Jamie Dickman, stepsons Roger “Chip” Hamilton and wife Jennifer,
and Mike Hamilton. Also granddaughters- Rebecca Lee, Elizabeth Wyld, Lorena Griffith, and

have five great grandchildren- Cooper, Miranda, Madelyn, Ethan and Jacob.
