Thomas Addison Compton (Tom), 71, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, in Meridian, Idaho surrounded by his loved ones.

Tom was born on December 22, 1954, in Boise, Idaho to Glenn and Marjorie Compton and was the eldest of their five children. Tom spent his childhood and most of his adult life in Boise where he became an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and hiking. Tom was an accomplished skier and horseman. Tom owned several horses and loved both hunting with them as well as taking friends and family on trail rides. Tom took joy in cooking for family and friends and took delight in hosting an annual Christmas open house. Tom’s greatest pride was in attending his grandchildren’s soccer games and school events. Tom looked forward to his annual hunting trips along the beautiful North Fork of the Boise River with his long-time friends Denny and Mark (deceased). Tom was a certified Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver and enjoyed diving around the world. When at home Tom enjoyed Boise State Football and following the players’ careers. One of Tom’s favorite interests was his love of Idaho history. He also enjoyed western movies and country music. It was not unusual for Tom to read a book a day. McCall, Idaho held a special memory for Tom including his grandparents’ cabin on Payette Lake and participating in boating and outdoor adventures with family and friends.

He attended Boise High School and played both football and baseball before graduating in 1972. Tom coached Little League Baseball and was also a judo instructor along with his brothers. While in high school Tom began working in his family’s business, Compton Transfer and Storage, which was originally started by Tom’s great-great grandfather James Randolph “J.R.” Compton and his wife Lillie. Tom was an instrumental part of his family legacy which is still proudly in operation today and has been passed down to the 5th generation of the Compton family.

Tom and his beloved wife Mary-Ann shared an incredibly beautiful love which spanned over 30 years. They were never far apart and were each other’s best friends. They were fortunate to travel to many parts of the world including countries in Europe, Great Brittain, Scandinavia, Southeast Asia, Central America, Australia and the South Pacific. During their travels, Tom and Mary-Ann made some amazing lifelong friendships.

They also spent many years in Mary-Ann’s hometown in Napa Valley, California enjoying the beautiful wine country. Tom particularly enjoyed their many trips to Poland to visit Mary-Ann’s Polish relatives. Tom was always welcomed with open arms and was especially grateful for getting to experience the warm, inviting hospitality of the Polish people.

Tom is survived by his wife Mary-Ann Compton, others include his loving children, Chad (Ginnie) Compton, Shawn (Karen) Compton, stepchildren Tessa (Mike) Doyle and Travis (Cassidy) Lemke, 6 devoted grandchildren Ryan Compton, Ginnita Compton, Cayden Doyle, Brogan Doyle, Tydan Doyle and Gage Lemke. Also surviving are his siblings Brett (Liz) Compton, Randy (Chris) Compton, Scott Compton, and Mary Kay (Steve) Sprague and former wife Kathleen Lally. He was preceded in death by his wonderful parents and his adored mother-in-law, Eleanor Entenman.

Tom made everyone feel welcome with his kind, gentle and caring nature. Easy-going, Tom could make anyone laugh with his witty sense of humor. He was extremely personable with a loving spirit that brightened the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Tom enjoyed life to the fullest.
