Terri Jean Woodall (born Lien, formerly Pynchon) passed from this earth on September 12, 2026, in Boise, Idaho, at the age of 64. She died in the company of her husband Howard following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Terri was born March 22, 1962, in Harvey, Illinois, to Dallas and Janice “Jan” Lien. The third of four children, Terri grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota. She enjoyed being involved in youth church activities, playing trumpet and ice skating.
Following graduation from Fargo North High School in 1980, she attended Moorhead State University and chose a college work-study program in Crested Butte, Colorado. While there, Terri met her first husband, Jay Pynchon. Terri and Jay fell in love over their shared passion for skiing and other mountain activities. After marrying in Fargo on September 3, 1983, they relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, to live on the same property as Jay’s parents. Terri completed her Bachelor of Business Administration from Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1990. While in Hawaii, Terri excelled at ocean canoe racing and other island sports. Their time in Hawaii also ushered in life as parents, welcoming their first two children, Joe (1993) and Dallas (1995).
Job pursuits moved Terri and her family to Boise, Idaho, in 1997. Their third child, Evan (2000), completed their family alongside beloved pet bulldogs. Terri was heavily involved in her son’s sports games and took them on scenic cross-country road trips. She enjoyed skiing and hiking with her children in the nearby mountains. Throughout her life, Terri would lovingly refer to her three sons as her “pride and joy.” Terri was a lifelong devoted member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. She drew great meaning from her relationship with faith and her church community.
Following the death of her husband Jay in 2022, Terri was fortunate to find love a second time. She married Howard Woodall on May 18, 2024, in Boise. During their three years together, Terri and Howard enjoyed a shared passion for travel and activities such as biking, fishing, rafting, and scuba diving. Their adventures took them to many destinations including Japan, Belize, Puerto Rico, Bonaire, and Cabo San Lucas. In 2023, Terri also completed a long-time goal of learning to fly an airplane.
Terri is survived by her father Dallas Lien, husband Howard Woodall, sons Joseph “Joe” Pynchon IV (Emily), Dallas Pynchon (Liz) and Evan Pynchon, granddaughter Daphne Pynchon, and siblings Kevin Lien (Sandi), Kerri Albrecht (Ray) and Kris Lien. She is preceded in death by her mother Janice “Jan” Lien and her first husband Joseph “Jay” Pynchon III.
We are grateful for the compassionate care provided to Terri by the medical staff at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center during the last month of her life.
