On November 11, 2025, Terrance Edward Papé left his transitional home of Boise, Idaho to move permanently into his Father, YHWH's house with many, many rooms. Born on May 17, 1952, to Dean and Shirley Papé at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Oregon, which was also the town where he grew up and attended school from kindergarten through high school.
Terry graduated from South Eugene High School in 1970, having participated in multiple varsity sports. It was during his senior year in high school that Terry entered into a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His strong Christian perspective on life continued to influence him until his death.
Terry attended Stanford University where he was a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity and played football in '72,'73 and '74 seasons, graduating in 1974. Some of the friendships he made in his fraternity and on the football teams continued until his death.
In December of 1975 he and Nancy Anne Sweetman were married. Together, they moved to Dallas, Texas in 1976, where Terry attended Dallas Theological Seminary, graduating with a ThM in 1980. That year, Terry and Nancy moved to Boise, where Terry joined the pastoral staff of Cole Community Church. From 1979 to 1985 their four children were born: Rebekah in Dallas, and Abigail, Sarah and Bryan in Boise.
In 1988, Terry returned to graduate school once again, where he earned a Doctorate in Psychology from George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon in 1992. Upon returning to Boise, he joined an existing psychotherapy practice, Center for Hope and Healing. He eventually took ownership of the practice until his retirement in 2021.
Terry enjoyed being active and playing many sports. He was a member of the Boise Racquet and Swim Club, serving on its board for six years. He spent nine years on the board of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, always enjoying attending the plays each summer. Terry was an avid skier, water skier, wake surfer, mountain biker and road cyclist. In 2012, at the age of 60, he summited / climbed Mt. Rainier with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. Terry always enjoyed escaping to the mountains for fun and relaxation anytime of the year, especially in McCall where his family cabin provided a home away from home.
In the spring of 2017 Terry met Vicki Lynn McQuillen, and they married in November of that year. His years with Vicki were some of the happiest of his life, marked with fun, friendships and travel. Regular destinations included Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Great Falls, Bend, Austin, and Carmel
Friendship and fun were two of the most distinguishing aspects of Terry's life. He took friendship very seriously and worked hard to maintain connections with his friends locally as well as out of state, setting up coffee dates, small groups, bike rides and phone conversations. He had his circle of casual, close and committed friends. Those who were his committed friends were bonded by the principle "as iron sharpens iron, so one friend sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
There were several mottos his children and friends remember Terry constantly repeating:
"Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it”
"Faithful are the wounds of a friend" (Proverbs 27:6)
“Money is like manure, it doesn’t do anybody any good unless you spread it around"
"The gift of time is the most important gift you can pass along"
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved" (Romans 10:9-10)
Terry is survived by his wife, Vicki; four children, Rebekah, Abbey, Sarah, and Bryan (Rebecca); two stepchildren, Chase McQuillen (Melissa) and Erika Strausser (Paul); eleven grandchildren, Dean Pietka, Sienna, Gavin and Gray Papé, Kennedy, Emery, Landis and Ellie McQuillen and Kinley, Kate and Penny Strausser; and two siblings, Dian Tooke and Gary Papé.
