Suzanne White Woodcock, 82, passed away on July 13, 2024 after a long illness. Her life was full of books, laughter, friendship, travel, dedication to her family and to the causes she believed in, and love. She was born in San Francisco, CA, in 1941 to Margaret Hemsworth White and Edward Lawrence White. Upon graduating from Menlo-Atherton High School, she attended Stanford College, married David Jung, and she welcomed her first daughter. After her first marriage ended, she reconnected with someone she’d known at Menlo-Atherton High, Todd Woodcock, who ended up becoming her husband and partner in all things.
Suzanne and Todd moved to Boise when Todd took a job with Hewlett-Packard in the early 70’s. Their two younger daughters were born here, and even after Todd’s job in the computer industry took the family on a grand tour of the US, Boise remained their home base. Suzanne made lifelong friends everywhere the family went: Vancouver, WA; Paoli, PA; Austin, TX; Saratoga, CA; and back home to Boise. Everyone who knew her recognized her immediately as intelligent, witty, and creative, especially when it came to cooking. An invitation to dinner at Suzanne’s promised gourmet food and fascinating conversation.
Suzanne lost her beloved Todd in 1996, but she continued to surround herself with friends and immerse herself in work that benefited the community. She worked with the Audubon Society, the Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and the Idaho ACLU, where she earned the Progressive Administrator of the Year award. Travel figured large into her life: she visited Africa, India, China, and South and Central America, often on grand birdwatching trips, accompanied by cherished friends. In 2023, Suzanne finally got the opportunity to take a cruise to Alaska with her family.
Suzanne is survived by siblings Eileen “Molly” Bergesen (John Sweitzer) of Sun Lakes, AZ and Patrick White of Menlo Park, CA; daughters Carin Hutchins (Bob) of Humble, TX, Kendall Lincoln (Ethan) of Eagle, ID, and Lindsay Woodcock (Matt Rice) of Chattanooga, TN; two nephews, and three grandsons.
A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at the Terraces of Boise on September 8th from 3-5 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Suzanne’s name to the causes she devoted herself to:
