Susan Kay Meckelson

Susan Meckelson passed away at home with her family by her side on September 6, 2026. Susan leaves behind a legacy of immeasurable love, kindness, and strength, and left this world the same way she lived in it - leading with love and making sure her family and friends were cared for.

Susan was born April 12, 1954, to Frank and Mae (Rose) Buckingham. A lifelong Boise resident, she attended Hillcrest Elementary School and North Jr. High and graduated from Boise High School in 1972. She briefly studied at Boise State before starting her career, which eventually led her to her dream role in the Corporate Communications department at Idaho Power. After thirty-three years, she retired, carrying with her the countless friendships she had gained and nurtured over the years.

Among the many treasures in her life, her children were the most valued. She took pride in each of her three children, and even in death, she remains a guiding light as they continue in their endeavors and successes.

Susan met the love of her life, Mo Meckelson, in 2000, and they married in 2006. With that marriage, her family circle became complete as she gracefully folded her stepchildren and grandchildren into her life.

In retirement, Susan and Mo took to the mountains and spent much of their free time camping and exploring wherever their trusty truck and trailer could take them. When not on the road, Susan most loved spending countless hours with family and friends amongst the many flowers and plants on her beloved patio. With a light beer in hand and her beautiful smile, Susan solved many of the world’s problems on her patio.

Susan is survived by her husband, Mo, her daughter, Tessa (Ryan), her sons, Sam (Casi) and Shane, and her step-sons, Sean (Jill) and Kellen (Molly), her sister, Sally (Jerry), her brother, Tom (Carmen), her wonderful grandchildren, Caleb, Nate, Maddox, Gage, Connor, Kayla, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jim and Tim.

Services will be held at Bowman Funeral Home on September 24th, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with a reception to follow at her favorite hangout, The Burger N’ Brew.
