Susan Ann Harris

1947 - July 16, 2025

We love and miss you. There is an emptiness without you.

Susan was born in 1947 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Charles and Ann Roser. She grew up in Nebraska and Colorado, where she met her husband Tom, a newly graduated veterinarian, while she was working at a restaurant in Rocky Ford. They married in December 1969 and in 1970 the couple moved to Fremont, California, where Tom began a career as a meat and poultry inspector. They resided there for 11 years, raising two daughters, and were active with the Lutheran Church. Highlights of the era included owning their first home, hosting a family of Vietnamese refugees for several months and trips to Disneyland and Lake Tahoe. In 1981, the family moved to Gooding, Idaho, where Susan began working for the Bureau of Land Management at the Shoshone District office. Life in small town Idaho included raising alfalfa and keeping 2 horses on their nine acres, skiing at Soldier Mountain and Pomerelle and weekly shopping trips to Twin Falls. The family also attended retreats at Lutheran Camp Perkins in the Sawtooth Mountains. They moved to Boise in 1986, where Susan began taking field trips with the BLM and was a volunteer at the World Center for Birds of Prey.

Susan and Tom traveled extensively in the US and abroad in their retirement and from 2009-19 spent the winters in their RV in South Padre Island, Texas. An avid gardener, her poppies bloomed in late May each year at their Boise home and were enjoyed by all. She had many pets over the years and loved walking with her dogs, concluding with two sets of Scottish Terriers (Maggie and McGregor followed by Angus and Skye, both littermates and all of whom preceded her in death).

Susan managed Type 1 Diabetes starting in her 30s, but did remarkably well with the condition. Advancing dementia in recent years contributed to her decline. Through it all, she was a lively, tenacious woman with many talents and interests, who was our anchor.

She is survived by her husband Tom of Boise, her daughter Crystal (Amy) of San Diego, California, her daughter Megan of Boise and granddaughter Charlie of San Diego, a source of great joy in her final years. She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Phil Menges, sister, Linda Roser, and nephew, Douglas Roser.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services. In lieu of flowers, your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
