Sue Mauveen Anne Stadler
Sue was born on July 27, 1946 in Boise, Idaho. She died on July 28, 2023 after a reoccurrence of cancer. Sue was the eldest of seven siblings born to Ben and Betty Stadler. Later came Sally, Joe, Judy, Tom, Tim and Carol. Sue Mauveen Ann Stadler was not born a Sue. Family lore went that her dad met a little girl named Mauveen while he was in France as a soldier during World War II and later bestowed the name on his first-born daughter. Having a French name nobody could pronounce or spell, the nickname “Sue” was chosen.
Sue attended Borah High School her sophomore and junior years and graduated from Meridian High School in 1964. She attended universities in Boise, Chicago and Minneapolis graduating with a master’s degree in Social Work. She retired from the Veterans Administration after 20 plus years of service and later had her own private practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Sue’s happy place was in the water. She owned a home on a lake with her bedroom window facing the water. She swam three times a week at the YMCA and was a member of their Master Swimmer’s program. Her kayaking adventures took her around the country as well as other parts of the world. She was a member of the Mountain West Outdoor Club and made many lifelong friends. Sue loved to hike and camp and was always ready for her next adventure.
Later in life she found a spiritual home at the Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. She was passionate about women’s rights and women’s suffrage. Her smile and heartfelt laugh were infectious. She will be remembered for her love of life, her zest for adventure, and her dedication to family and friends.
Sue is proceeded in death by her parents Ben and Betty Stadler, sister Carol Stadler Price, brother Tom Stadler, nephew Eric Steele, cousin Jerry Andrews and close friend James Slover. Sue is survived by siblings, Sally Hopt, Joe Stadler, Judy (Ron) Hutt, Tim Stadler, nieces Sheri Johnson, Sarah Turner, Laura Fisher, Elisa Brockway, nephews Ryan Stadler, Eric Stadler, Travis Stadler, John Hopt, and Ryan Hutt.
