Steven E Hartley

April 24, 1962 — December 10, 2025

Meridian

Steven E. “Steve” Hartley, 63, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, after a brief yet courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born on April 24, 1962, in Pocatello, Idaho, Steve was the beloved son of Pat Hartley and the late Ken Hartley, and a devoted brother to Stuart Hartley and Brenda Durkee.

Steve grew up in American Falls, Idaho with a love for sports, friendship, and family. A standout athlete in his youth, Steve loved competing in baseball, basketball, football, and tennis—sports he continued to follow and enjoy throughout his life. In 1982, Steve married Mitzi (Gallegos) Hartley. They shared two children: Courtney, born in 1982 and Scott, born in 1985. Years later, he met and married Marla (DeFrance) Hartley. Together they built a lifetime of friendship and their blended family was completed with the birth of their daughter Stevie in 1993. Steve was an extremely loving and kind father, stepfather, and grandfather.

After moving to Fruitland, Idaho in 1990, Steve partnered in opening a small convenience store, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life. In 1992, Steve began his career with Hartley Concrete, a family business that later grew into Hartley Concrete and Dirtworks, and most recently Alturas Homes where he proudly worked for the remainder of his life. Steve had a dedication to his work that was unmatched, and through this he found a second family—building strong friendships that lasted decades.

Steve was an avid Boise State fan, cheering on the Broncos in both football and basketball, and he faithfully followed his LA Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams. He loved playing golf when time allowed, spending quiet moments in the mountains of McCall, and reading daily. Steve was always an animal lover and treasured his pets like family.

Known for his hilarious sense of humor, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty, Steve’s warmth and laughter will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Steve is survived by his partner, Marla; his children, Courtney (Jeff) Swore, Scott Hartley (Rachel Motley), and Stevie DeFrance; his mother, Pat Hartley; his brother, Stuart (Kathy) Hartley; his sister, Brenda Durkee; and his three granddaughters, Alaina, Annie, and Everly Swore. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Ken Hartley; and grandparents, Elmer and Leilia Hartley, Edison and Goldia Brown.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held January 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Alturas Homes, 250 E Eagles Gate Dr., Suite 320, Eagle, Idaho 83616 with a luncheon provided.

The family wishes to thank everyone who offered love, visits, messages, and support during his final days. Steve deeply felt that love, and it brought him great comfort. They also give their heartfelt thanks to the hardworking nurses and staff of St. Luke’s Oncology Department for their tireless efforts in caring for Steve.
