Stephen “Steve” John Karwatsky passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Boise, Idaho, at the age of 76. He was born on February 12, 1949, in Medford, Oregon, the son of the late Anthony “Tony” John Karwatsky and Freida Alice Reiman.
Steve grew up in Boise, Idaho, and graduated from Boise High School before proudly serving in the United States Army. He was wounded twice while serving in Vietnam, a testament to his courage and sacrifice. After returning home, Steve’s career was launched by working at Kenny Reiman’s Comet Printing. As a result, he became an entrepreneur in both printing and bindery businesses.
In his younger years, Steve was known for his love of softball — both playing and coaching — and for the nickname “Karwash,” which stuck thanks to his great sense of humor. Later in life, he became an avid golfer and achieved three holes-in-one, once even winning a car for his perfect shot during a tournament.
Steve’s joy for life was contagious. He had a laugh that could fill a room and a smile that brightened everyone’s day. A man of faith, he loved Jesus and found great peace and fellowship participating in worship services at the Boise VA Home, where he was lovingly cared for with kindness and honor by a wonderful staff.
He is survived by his children, John Anthony Karwatsky of Tega Cay, SC; Matthew Paul Karwatsky of Vancouver, WA; and Kristin Lee Karwatsky of Pendleton, OR and his granddaughter, Addison Lee Karwatsky of Pendleton, OR. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jay Anthony Karwatsky.
Steve will be laid to rest at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, please think of your favorite funny movie line and smile big, knowing that Steve is now happier than ever.
