Boise

Stanley D. Smith, 79, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Boise, Idaho. He was born May 11, 1947, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Dean N. Smith and Aretta E. ‘Betty’ Wilson.

He earned an Associate in Business Administration while living in Washington state and later received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Boise State University in 1977. Stan enjoyed a diverse career that included work in mortuary and ambulance services, the medical field, and in real estate, banking and insurance. He owned Owyhee County Title Company and the Antique Hub before being employed as manager of Rim Crest Condominiums for 19 years.

Stan genuinely enjoyed interacting with and helping people. His warmth and outgoing nature earned him many friends and acquaintances, both personally and professionally, throughout Idaho and around the world.

Many of Stan’s friends in the West were unaware of his service as an Army medic in Vietnam. He was subjected to chemicals numerous times which contributed to the ALS which took him from us. He was awarded the Silver Star and two Bronze Star Medals for extraordinary courage and service to his fellowmen.

He is survived by his sister, Sylvia M Budd (Marvin) of Berrien Springs, Michigan, and his close friend, Ed Heckathorn of Boise, Idaho. He also helped raise five stepchildren—Debbie (deceased), Bill, George, Dave, and Jim (deceased) Duncan.

A memorial service will be held September 29 at 11 am at the Idaho State Veterans’ Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.

Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City, Idaho, is assisting the family.
