Spencer “Spark” Lee Horning, 77, of Eagle, Idaho, passed away on September 5, 2026. He was born on October 5, 1948, in Oakland, California, to Raymond Horning and Barbara Smith Horning.
Spencer attended Del Valle High School and later served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Spencer was an artist at heart who found beauty and inspiration in the world around him. He expressed his creativity through drawing, acrylic & watercolor painting, mixed media, and woodworking, particularly creating pieces from driftwood. He also loved photography and preserving images of the places that caught his eye. He was an avid reader whose interests spanned many genres and also enjoyed music, poetry, bird watching and walks in nature.
Spencer had a curious and somewhat adventurous spirit and loved to travel. He was especially drawn to the ocean and beaches- and enjoyed scuba diving. Among the places he spoke about frequently were Maui, Mexico, Tahiti and the Galapagos Islands. Just as much as he enjoyed exploring new places, he enjoyed meeting people along the way. Spark could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, including complete strangers. He also treasured friendships he made throughout his life and loved sharing stories about the people and places important to him.
He also appreciated life’s simple pleasures - a good cup of coffee, with Starbucks becoming a particular favorite in recent years, the company of cats, and dabbling in the stock market. He developed his own system and handwritten charts and approached the market with remarkable passion. Spark also loved his country and his family. On a recent Thanksgiving, he shared his love and gratitude in his own words: “I am thankful to be in America with a big happy family as one.” - Uncle Spark
Spencer proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded Air Medals for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight missions.
He is survived by his sister, Cheryl; nieces, Jennifer and her husband, Corey, and Julie and her husband, Eric; as well as his grandnephews and great grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Barbara Horning.
