Boise

Scot Mathew Pettit, 58, of Boise, Idaho, went home to his Lord and Savior, surrounded by those who loved him most, on April 4, 2026.

Born on October 30, 1967, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Scot was the son of Richard and Shirley Pettit. As a child, he enjoyed summers at the railroad ranch in Island Park with his grandparents, especially his cherished grandmother Deane. He played many sports throughout his school years, which led to his lifelong love for the Broncos. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1986 and attended Idaho State University, earning a degree in welding.

In 1988, Scot joined the United States Air Force, serving honorably until 2017. Over his 29 years of dedicated service, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT). His deployments included the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), along with several memorable stateside deployments, such as those in support of natural disaster relief efforts and various humanitarian missions. Throughout his military career, Scot formed deep bonds with his comrades, sharing countless memorable experiences that would last a lifetime.

On December 15, 2000, Scot married Lynetta Pettit in Boise, Idaho. Their 25 years of marriage were filled with love, companionship, and lots of laughter. Scot was a devoted husband, father figure, and grandfather, known as “Papa Scot (Shredder).” He was always a constant presence in his grandchildren’s lives, rain or shine. He could often be found enjoying time with his family and friends over a cold beer.

Scot is survived by his beloved wife, Lynetta Pettit; children Marcia (Mikl) Masterjohn and Zachary (Stephanie) Wood; grandchildren Jacob Bogner, Della (Jacob) Markus, and Scot Bogner; nieces Marisa (Daniel) Martinez and Lindsey Pettit; two great-grandchildren; and four great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Richard Pettit; brothers Mark and Rick Pettit; and niece Elizabeth Pettit.

A memorial service will be held at the VA Cemetery in Boise on May 8, 2026, at 10 AM.

Scot will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the profound love he shared with those around him. His legacy of strength, mentorship, and camaraderie will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
