Sandra (Sandi) Joan Steiner, 83, of Boise Idaho, passed away Tuesday, September 20th, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

Sandi was born in Payette, Idaho on December 11th, 1938 to Chester and Ruth Ahrens Grimes. She lived in Payette and Fruitland before moving to Emmett, Idaho.

Sandi was active in 4H, winning awards at the Gem County Fair, and in Jobs Daughters. She played the clarinet and was a member of the Emmett High School marching band. In 1958, Sandi graduated from Emmett High School. Following graduation, Sandi attended Links School of Business in Boise, Idaho where after graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for Alexander’s Men’s Wear.

In 1964, Sandi married Daniel Steiner, and together they had 3 children David, Randall, and Scott. She loved being a mother and had the pleasure of caring for her boys throughout her life. As her grandchildren arrived she was devoted to them even though they lived far away.  She would always call and ask how everyone was doing and wanted to hear about the happenings in their lives.  Nothing was too trivial for her to hear about. A niece wrote a wonderful note to her where she shared that Sandi provided her “… her view of a mother’s love” based on the examples Sandi showed caring for her family, especially her special needs son David, who welcomed her into Heaven.

Sandi was often found serving those around her.  She volunteered at Koelsch Elementary School in Boise as part of the PTA, in the library, and in her children’s classrooms.  She was the Cub Scout Den Leader for both Randy and Scott.  Then as her boys grew, Sandi went to work as a lunch lady with the Boise Independent School District where she served many years until she retired at age 70. After retiring she had the opportunity to travel with family to Alaska, Utah, Missouri, Hawaii, Washington, South Dakota, Wyoming, Florida, Oregon, and Germany.  These trips with her sister, sons, and grandchildren meant a great deal to her.

Always the caregiver, she took care of her mother who moved into a retirement community near Sandi after selling the ranch. Sandi befriended others who lived there becoming close friends with many.  Long time neighbors were life long friends even if they moved away. Sandi enjoyed going to movies, plays and going out to eat with friends.

She is survived by her sons: Randall (Suzanne) and Scott. Her grandchildren Zachariah (Holly), Joshua, and Ella; Her sister Peggy (Larry) and former spouse Daniel. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son David, parents Chester and Ruth, and her brother in law Larry.
