Ron Lopez DeVinaspre
Ron Lopez DeVinaspre was born in Boise, Idaho on November 16, 1940, to Victor Lopez DeVinaspre and Berniece Wallace. Ron passed away peacefully in his home on January 16, 2024.
Ron attended Cole School and was in the first graduating class of Borah High School in 1959. He went on to attend Boise Junior College and then graduated from the College of Idaho in 1963, majoring in Biology.
When he was 16 years old, he started working for his dad, who owned Vic’s Countryside Eggs. He continued with the family business until retiring in 2006. He enjoyed the many people he met at all the local restaurants and grocery stores while delivering eggs and was affectionately known as the “Egg Man.”
In 1964, Ron joined the Boise Highlanders bagpipe band, which he was Pipe Major of for over 40 years during which time he grew the band’s size and significance exponentially. He continued to perform with the Boise Highlanders and the City of Boise Police Pipes and Drums until 2022. He taught countless students how to play the bagpipes and performed for innumerable weddings, funerals, parties and more across the valley.
When Ron joined the Boise Highlanders, he became smitten with a cute girl named Joyce Bottoms, whom he married in 1978. They have two children, Ryan and Sara, whom they are very proud of. Ron loved spending time with and spoiling his 5 grandsons, and their interests became his interests. Ron was always the biggest cheerleader for his family and attended all their activities: quilt shows, plays, basketball games, bagpipe performances and competitions, school programs, 4H shows, church activities, and more. He freely complimented his family’s achievements, interests, and activities. He told everyone, even strangers at the store, how proud he was of his family and how he was the luckiest man they knew. If he saw a newspaper article, YouTube video, cartoon, book, or anything else that made him think of someone, he would mail, email, or buy it for them.
In his retirement years, in addition to keeping busy with bagpiping, he completed the training to become an Idaho Master Naturalist. He spent many hours volunteering at the MK Nature Center and Foothills Learning Center. He also enjoyed spending time in the yard, and in the summer, he often sat under a canopy of trees, sipping lemonade, doing the daily crossword puzzle, and petting the family goats.
Above all, he wanted to be helpful to others and bring joy to their lives. Everyone who knew him has a memory of his sense of humor and infectious enthusiasm.
His is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Joyce, children Ryan (Shannon) and Sara (Robby), his grandsons Davin, Meric, Oban, Rafael, and Oliver, and his brother Dennis.
A celebration of life potluck will be held at 11:30 am, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Swan Falls Picnic Area at Swan Falls Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
