Roger F. Hanson (November 3, 1947 - October 21, 2025)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Roger F. Hanson, who departed peacefully in his sleep on October 21, 2025, at the age of 77. He was a man characterized by his deep devotion to his family and faith, with a personality that filled every room he entered.
Roger was born on November 3, 1947, in Idaho Falls, ID, to Francis and Mary Hanson, the oldest of seven children. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School through eighth grade, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1966. He joined the U.S. Air Force the fall after graduation where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and served one tour in Vietnam.
After four years of service to the country he loved, he moved to Boise where he connected with the love of his life, Connie Irene as he lovingly called her, and they married on August 21, 1971. They spent 54 blessed years together, raising their three children in Idaho Falls so they could be surrounded by their family.
For 25 years, Roger worked as a Construction Manager at Mountain Bell, later U.S. West, a man known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication to his employees. After retiring in 1999, days were spent traveling with his wife, visiting family and friends, and spending time on the golf course with his sons, grandsons, and friends. Though his health suffered towards the end of his life, that never stopped him from swinging a golf club, especially if it meant spending time with those he loved.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman and shared that passion with his family. Summers were spent camping, fishing, and hiking with his family, always looking for a “lake” that someone told him was at the top of a mountain. When not enjoying the outdoors, Roger loved wrestling, coaching both of his sons throughout their lives, and spending over twenty years as both a national and international referee, where lifelong friendships were created.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Connie I. Hanson; his three children, Angie Van Berckelaer (Bill) of Sandy, Utah, Shane Hanson (Kristina) of Montgomery, Texas, and Adam Hanson (Jenny) of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren, Destiny Hanson, Will and Alex Van Berckelaer, Marshall McCall, and Nyiaka and Hawk Bean; three brothers, Greg, Joe (Chris), and John (Cindy) Hanson; two sisters, Kathleen Coates and Julie Ludholtz (Rick); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary B. Hanson, his in-laws/parents, Tommy and Luella Kramer, one sister, Teresa Baisch (Dave), and his daughter in-law Amanda Hanson.
A rosary service will be held for Roger on November 14, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Holy Apostle Catholic Church in Meridian, Idaho, followed by a mass at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. Please join the family for a celebration of Roger's life right after the interment. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make donations to the Parkinson Foundation or the Humane Society in Roger’s name.
