Robert Steven McNally (always known as Bob) was born to Robert B. and Mary M. McNally on November 9th, 1955. Bob was born in Glendale, and raised in nearby Tujunga, California. Bob had one older sister, Sharon K. McNally. The family lived in a modest, new house on a street full of young families with plenty of kids. Everyone knew each other. The street dead-ended at Los Angeles National Forest a block away. It was a terrific place to create bike trails and tree forts. Bob made friends easily, not just in childhood, but throughout his life.
Bob graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in 1973. Bob’s favorite classes were wood and metal shops; his favorite after-school activity was football. Over the years, the McNally’s typically went camping for family vacations. They explored the southwestern states, camping in national parks, recreation areas, and out-of-the-way scenic campgrounds. It created a true love and appreciation for nature’s beauty.
Bob got his first motorcycle at the age of nine. That little Honda 70 kick-started a lifelong love for riding motorcycles, both street and dirt bikes. Bob became an excellent rider. He expanded his off-road interests to All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). He made climbing sand dunes look so easy. Bob shared his love of riding motorcycles, camping, and beautiful scenery with many people. He rode and camped extensively in the southern California desert with a large group of friends and made annual visits to his favorite places in southern Utah, namely Escalante and Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Among his less risky sports, Bob enjoyed bowling and improved his game while bowling leagues for many years. Bob also loved to play golf with friends every chance he got.
Bob had a couple starter jobs. Notably, a job at the local Foster Freeze for a few years. He wanted to be a truck driver and fulfilled that goal driving for Bob’s Big Boy and then Borrman Steel in Burbank, California. Bob delivered steel during most of his 36 years at Borrman and learned to operate most of the shop equipment as well. Bob retired from Borrman Steel in 2018, sold his home in Tujunga, and moved to Star, Idaho to join his sister.
Bob flourished in Idaho. He loved it here and was happy to call it home. Bob joined the Star Lions and participated in volunteer activities with the club. Bob began riding his bicycle daily (weather permitting). He made friends and acquaintances along his riding routes. He got healthier and lost a substantial amount of weight over the past two years.
Bob passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at the age of sixty-nine. Bob will be missed by so many.
