Robert Dean Patrick December 2, 1936 – September 26, 2025

Robert “Bob” Dean Patrick, 88, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, with his wife by his side.

Bob was born on December 2, 1936, in Larrabee, Iowa, to Robert Maxwell Patrick and Julia Maria White. He graduated from high school in 1955 and went on to attend Montana State College, where he graduated in 1962.

Bob will be remembered as an avid flyer whose career as a pilot spanned from his teenage years—landing in Iowa cornfields at age 17—to nearly 30 years with United Airlines, where he flew from 1969 until his retirement in 1998.

In 2011, Bob was honored with the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award, the FAA’s highest recognition for pilots, celebrating more than 50 years of professionalism, skill, and dedication to aviation. To date, fewer than 9,400 pilots have received this distinction.

Bob’s passion for flying extended beyond commercial aviation. He built his own WACO aircraft, and the first flight was on September 19, 2005. He later showcased it at the Oshkosh and Arlington fly-ins, earning several awards for his craftsmanship.

Outside the cockpit, Bob loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter who took many backcountry trips with family and friends—including hunts in Mongolia. He also loved skiing, a hobby he enjoyed with his wife, Mary Sue, and his son, Bart. Bob owned and operated farm properties in both Emmett and Weiser, Idaho.

Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Sue Roach; son, Bart Patrick; stepdaughter, Kim Carlson; granddaughters, who he loved, raised and supported as if they were his own- Nicole (Landon) Green and Jessica (Eric) West; as well as cousins he loved dearly and close friends Jim, Larry, and Sandy.

He was preceded in death by his son, Wyatt Patrick; sister, Linda Rush; and brother, David “Larry” Patrick Sr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Weiser Vendome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Idaho Aviation Foundation or the Weiser River Trail.
