Richard Deane Potter

Richard “Rick” Deane Potter, 72, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness, on August 15, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born January 30, 1953 in Burbank, California to Carlton “Bud” and Carolyn Potter. Rick grew up in North Hollywood, California, where he attended Laurel Hall School, and was active in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Rick was married to the love of his life, Francine, for nearly 51 years. They had three sons together: Matthew, Timothy and Bryan. Rick had a love of hockey that he shared with his sons, traveling with them across North America to their games. He graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1971, and attended Los Angeles Valley College before enlisting in the Marine Corps. In March of 1978, he became an officer for the Los Angeles Police Department, during which time he served throughout Los Angeles, retiring as a Detective in 2009. Due to Rick’s love of the outdoors, Rick and Francine moved to Ogden, Utah after his retirement. During this time he enjoyed the outdoor sports of skiing, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. In 2022, Rick and Francine relocated to the Treasure Valley to be close to family where they resided until his death. Rick is survived by his wife, Francine, sons: Matthew (Amy), Timothy (Megan), and Bryan (Lauren), grandchildren: Jacob, Mackenzie, Savannah, Lily, Benjamin, Joseph, Sawyer, and Wyatt, and brother: Robert (Mary) Potter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carlton "Bud" Potter, mother, Carolyn Potter, and beloved mother-in-law, Frances Bertola Hoag Golomski.

Those who knew Rick will remember him for his quick wit. A loving father and grandfather, he will be missed by all.
