Richard Victor “Dick” Clark, 1942-2026

Richard Victor “Dick” Clark, born 24 July 1942 in Lewiston, Idaho died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family 4 April 2026 in Meridian, Idaho. “Dick”, as he was widely known throughout his life, suffered from several health calamities in his final months. His relentless mind and spirit battled his physical body until the very end, and he simply refused to surrender.

Born in Lewiston, Idaho, Dick found his loves for the outdoors, cars, family, friends, firearms, and fishing in the backwoods of Hells Canyon. At 16, he moved to Grangeville, Idaho to live with his older brother, Kenny where he lettered in football, track and Student Government as a Grangeville Bulldog—Class of 1960. He, and one of his many life-long friends, Paul, raised plenty of hell in Idaho County. Dick reluctantly shared memories of his childhood, but keen ears and sharp eyes could learn a lot listening to Paul Hauger (and his wife Julie) laugh about the “old days” with Dick (and his wife Sharon). They were not short on fun, adventure and hard knocks growing up in the 1950s.

Dick was drafted into the United State Army in 1964 and served in the Vietnam War. Dick rarely spoke of his active-duty experiences outside of the brotherhood he felt with his company men. The family has learned recently that his company was responsible for establishing the first ammo supply dump in Vietnam in a bombed-out rubber plantation the French had abandoned. He was proud to serve his country, enjoyed spending time with other vets at the V.A. in downtown Boise and advocated for veteran’s rights every chance he had. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal among others. After his service, Dick held several jobs including tending bar with his brother, Kenny, owned two taverns, sold cars and ran a route as an all-around fix-it man up. He retired the Game and Amusement Manager for Inland Vending, who he proudly worked for since 1986.

Dick found the love of his life and married Sharon Johnson of Buhl, Idaho in Boise, 1975, where they lived for the remainder of his days. Dick and Sharon became inseparable and have been for 51 years. He took Sharon’s daughter Staci (age 9) in as if she were his own and Dick’s second daughter, Calli, was born a year later in 1976. Dick loved his daughters intensely and guarded them with ferociousness. Dick was and is known as one of the most calm, demure and patient men on the planet, unless you crossed his girls. He was as fierce in his protective nature as he was reserved, generous and kind in his general disposition.

Dick was an avid fan of the Boise State Broncos and held season tickets at Bronco Stadium until his health and mobility decline outweighed the experience of attending the game in person. He loved the Broncos—he never missed a game and spoke both often and recently of attending THE Fiesta Bowl taking down Oklahoma and not being far from where Ian Johnson threw the football after the Statue of Liberty touchdown. He would never answer if you had asked, but those closest to him knew that game was one of the highest of highs in his life!

His only other love not his wife, daughters, grandchildren, Boise State Football and golfing was his 50+ year membership at the Boise Gun Club. Dick served actively at the Club and competed often. He won many awards competing at the BGC and events statewide including the Idaho State Championships many years. He shot “100-straights” many times and was quite a shooter in his day. He fought his failing physical abilities for years shooting from an assisted position on the Senior Circuit and has his awards, buckles and trophies proudly displayed in his home’s living room. He loved the Boise Gun Club, his many friends made there and the thrill of weapons and firepower. He’s reloaded more shotgun shells than can be counted and loved introducing others to the Club by advocating for and growing the Annual Turkey Shoot at Thanksgiving—one of his favorite events. Dick was the 2012 Idaho Veteran Overall Champion, 2013 Idaho Senior Veteran Overall Champion, and 2014 Idaho Senior Veteran Singles Champion.

Above all else, Dick loved his family. He took pride in his daughters’ and grandchildren’s’ accomplishments, tried to bear the weight of their stresses on their behalf and made every effort to stay active in the lives of his family. He loved unconditionally his wife, partner and lover, Sharon. He cared for--doted, and waited on her until he could no longer, and his family believes his inability to actively care for and pamper Sharon is what broke his soul for the final time. Sharon’s grief is palpable and the hole in her heart is big enough for Ashton Jeanty (one of Dick’s all-time favorites) to run through—a hole that will not close until Dick and Sharon are together again.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Rosemary (Farquharson) Clark and his beloved brother and friend, Kenny Clark, brothers Norman Clark and Tom Clark. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon June (Johnson) Clark; sister, Anne Moore of Clarkston, WA, brother Jon Clark of Centralia, WA; daughters Staci (Aaron) Tuck, 59 of Snohomish, WA; Calli (Travis) Hobson, 49 of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren, Jordan (35), Libbi (18) and Rocky (12); and great grandchildren Hunter (10), and Kierian (9).

A viewing reception for family and friends will be held at Bowman Funeral Home, 10254 Carlton Bay Drive, Boise, Idaho 83714 on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The family will receive friends and family on from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. Dick will be laid to rest at the Idaho Veteran’s Cemetery in Boise and the family will host a private Committal Ceremony on the day of internment followed by a small gathering to dedicate his gravesite.
